MARTIN BARRAGAN AND BASSETT ADULT SCHOOL HONORED AT "HOPE, JOBS & FUTURES 2012" EVENT HOSTED BY GOODWILL
The evening of May 14th, our own Martin Barragan and Bassett Adult School was honored as Advocate of the Year in Goodwill of Southern California Gala Event “Hope, Jobs & Futures 2012”at the Pasadena Convention Center
Bassett Adult School is one of more than 220 schools that are on the LA County’s ETPL (eligible training providers list) that Goodwill
could use for advance training. This year we were selected as one of 3 schools honored at this event along with Valley College in West Hills and USC Medical Center in LA. These three schools exceeded the call of
duty and Goodwill considered them their most valued partners.
More importantly, this year two students were featured in the
presentation as success stories that were given hope, a job and a
future career by Goodwill Industries. One of the two was the story of
27 year old Bertha Saravia, a local single mom of two small children
that made some bad choices early in life. She was trying desperately to make ends meet for herself and the joys of her life, her two children. At the end of the video presentation there wasn’t a dry eye
in the house. While getting a standing ovation by the audience, Ms.
Saravia was called up on stage and she profoundly thanked her God,
Goodwill Industries for giving her a second chance, her teachers at
Bassett Adult School for trained her in security and Mr. Martin
Barragan for all his assistance.
Let’s never forget why we really exceed the call of duty.
Congratulations to Martin and the security instructors for a great job this past 12 months and the 200+ students that they have trained and assisted.
